Super Bowl Brings Sex Traffickers to Indianapolis

As everyone prepares for this weekend’s Super Bowl by purchasing potato chips and soft drinks, there is a sinister preparation that is going on behind the scenes.

More people are trafficked during the Super Bowl than any other time on U.S. soil and the State of Indiana is doing all they can to help curb this horrific trade:

Indiana rushed a bill through state legislature to ramp up penalties for sex traffickers two weeks ago. Hundreds of cab drivers have been trained to know whether or not they are hauling a prostitute, pimp or john. Catholic nuns have even been making phone calls to all the hotels and motels within a 50-mile radius of Indianapolis to make sure the management knows how to spot trafficking.

Even with all these stops put into place, Human Sex Trafficking will still go on.

Theresa Flores, a victim of trafficking for two years as a teenager living in Detroit, had this to say:

“You have traffickers that are businessmen and looking for this opportunity and exploiting vulnerable people. So they will be bringing in literally vans full of girls who work. They’ll be putting their pictures up on Backpage and Craigslist, and offering them for sale. They’ll be going to area motels to service these men.”

Personally, this has put a real damper on the Super Bowl for me. I’ve always enjoyed it, but knowing this is the largest Sex Trafficking event in the United States just makes me sick.

Hat’s-off to Indiana for doing all they can.
